About the role
The Referral Assistant supports the International Rescue Committee’s health programmes in Bangladesh by coordinating patient referrals from primary health care centres (PHCC) to secondary facilities. The role ensures critical patients reach the appropriate care promptly and that follow‑up processes are documented and communicated.
Key responsibilities
- Identify patients who need referral and arrange transfer to the appropriate health facility.
- Maintain professional communication with receiving facilities before each referral.
- Accompany critical patients to secondary health‑care centres and ensure timely hand‑over.
- Coordinate with the outreach team to track patient outcomes after referral.
- Assist the registrar in preparing and verifying referral documentation, including doctor referrals and CIC approvals.
- Participate in community awareness‑building activities related to health services.
- Maintain regular contact with patients and be available for emergency support within the camp.
- Monitor safety and security of field teams and report any concerns to supervisors.
Required profile
- Experience or familiarity with patient referral processes in humanitarian or health‑care settings.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with health facilities and field teams.
- Ability to travel with patients and handle logistical arrangements in challenging environments.
- Commitment to the IRC’s mission of providing humanitarian assistance.
