Senior Research Consultant – Child Marriage & Migration Study

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bangladesh is launching a formative qualitative study on the links between international labour migration and child marriage. The Senior Research Consultant will lead the full research cycle, from design through data collection, analysis and reporting, ensuring high ethical standards and rigorous methodology.

Key responsibilities

• Review and refine the existing research framework, develop an inception report with detailed methodology, data‑collection tools and a work plan, and select research sites in high‑migration, high‑child‑marriage regions.
• Recruit, train and supervise a field team, oversee ethical conduct of interviews and focus groups, monitor data quality, and produce progress reports.
• Lead transcription, data consolidation, and qualitative analysis using thematic, content and narrative techniques; draft and finalize a comprehensive research report with actionable recommendations.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Migration or a related field.
• Extensive experience in designing and managing qualitative research projects, preferably on gender, migration or child protection topics.
• Proven ability to supervise field teams, ensure ethical standards, and produce high‑quality analytical reports for UN agencies or similar organisations.
