Infectious Disease Surveillance Specialist

About the role
PATH is seeking an Infectious Disease Surveillance Specialist to join the STRIDES project, which strengthens surveillance, detection, and analytical capacity for infectious diseases across human and animal health in Bangladesh. The specialist will act as a subject‑matter expert, guiding technical surveillance activities and ensuring high‑quality data delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day support and oversight for surveillance activities in Bangladesh.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
- Lead outbreak investigations at national, regional, and international levels.
- Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and manage external communications.
- Coordinate with ministries of health, district health staff, and development partners across assigned geographies.
- Advise governments and partners on best practices, contributing to national guidelines and normative policies.
- Serve as a regional and country backstop for technical implementation, aligning with Joint External Evaluation results, International Health Regulations, and other global standards.
- Travel as needed to support in‑country activities and ensure timely production of situation reports, bulletins, and health risk assessments.
Required profile
- Subject‑matter expert in infectious disease surveillance with experience in both human and animal health contexts.
- Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage complex technical tasks.
- Experience collaborating with government agencies, international partners, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing skills, with a track record of producing high‑quality scientific and programmatic documents.
