Deputy Human Rights Officer (TJO)

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Dhaka seeks a Deputy Human Rights Officer (TJO) to support the Chief of Mission in managing the field presence and advancing the human‑rights mandate in Bangladesh.

Key responsibilities

• Act as deputy to the Chief of the OHCHR Mission, overseeing daily operations and ensuring alignment with the annual work and cost plan.
• Prepare human‑rights sections of reports for the General Assembly, Human Rights Council and other UN bodies.
• Lead team coordination, staff administration, planning and budgeting in consultation with the Chief.
• Develop and maintain donor relationships, draft concept notes and proposals, and monitor donor‑funded projects.
• Represent OHCHR in engagements with national authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and other international actors.
• Integrate gender‑sensitive human‑rights perspectives into programmes and support evaluation design.
• Provide up‑to‑date analysis of substantive human‑rights developments and recommend actions.
• Collect and analyse data to inform planning, decision‑making and reporting.
• Train and supervise junior and national staff.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of a wide range of human‑rights issues, including political, ethnic, racial, gender and socio‑economic dimensions.
• Familiarity with mandates, policies and procedures of human‑rights organisations.
• Ability to evaluate information from diverse sources and assess its impact on the human‑rights situation.
• Experience conducting in‑depth studies and proposing solutions to complex human‑rights challenges.
