Technical Officer – DRR and Response

About the role

The Technical Officer – DRR and Response will provide technical guidance and hands‑on field support for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and emergency response activities. You will work to strengthen community resilience, ensure quality interventions, and support rapid response for vulnerable households and children in both host and camp settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical inputs for designing and implementing DRR and response activities in line with best practices and sectoral guidelines.
• Support rapid response initiatives across health, education, nutrition, WASH and other sectors for affected households.
• Conduct technical assessments of camp infrastructure, facilities and learning centres, recommending upgrades or improvements.
• Assist with hazard, vulnerability and capacity assessments (HVCA) at community and camp levels.
• Support emergency needs assessments, develop early warning systems and raise awareness on disaster preparedness.
• Contribute technical inputs to Situation Reports, monitor intervention quality and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate with site management, local authorities and humanitarian partners on DRR‑related matters.
• Provide orientation and training to field staff, volunteers and community groups on DRR concepts and response protocols.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary education in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian assistance, public health, environmental science or a related field.
• Proven experience in DRR, emergency response or humanitarian programmes, preferably in camp or host‑community settings.
• Strong analytical abilities and experience conducting assessments, hazard mapping and risk analysis.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
